No power - Revs wont go past 4k and stuttery

Drove 3 miles along the road at lunch...pinged a few balls for 30 mins at driving range... got back in car ... started very strangely bit puttery etc... then the spanner/car sysbol lighted up on dash and the car stutters when revved between idle and 2k there is a definate jerky feel. The car has absolutley no pulling power foot to the floor and revvs wont go past 4k.

Any ideas what it is? Coils? sparks? something else.

    Car is a 03 (mk4) 1.8 Sri 5 Door. 25000 Miles on clock.

    Thanks.

Sounds like the problem i just had mate. It was the coilpack braking down, cost me £130 odd for a new one. Tech 2 will read the fault. The only other thing you could try is changing sparks, but TBH with the engine managment light on it is more likely to be something other than that.... but you never know. What harm could changing them do?

Yeah the fault will be registered on the ECU anyway. When my engine managment light came up, it went after i switched off and started again, but like I said it will be logged in the ECU.

Get it checked. For all you know it'll shit itself someday if you don't.
