Are they taking the PI$$ (Astra trade in)

Went to buy a Civic Type R last night with A/C & met paint.

Had the test drive well impressed even the GF liked it and the performance is awsome.

So back to the show room sales man tells me the price £17.5K, Then tells me my 03/2001 1.8 SRI 3 door Astra 50K FVSH is only worth £4200 on a trade in??????

Hence i did not order a car from them even with no trade in they are only knocking £300.00 quid off it.

So anyone out there know what a good condition y reg SRI is worth these days?

Anyones help or suggestions are most welcome.

It does sound poo money to me mate, after a quick look on autotraders web site they seemt o go for £6500 upwards

Unfortunatly they know most of us take the easy option in a trade in rather than selling privatly taking time and hassle then possibly going without a car for a number of weeks while we look for a new one

Don't expect a big discount from the honda dealers.
The CTR is currently out stripping demand, and honda have allocated all the 2004 units, I know some prospective buyers have been tols that their cars will be delivered in Jan 05.

Trade prices on the astra will suffer now because it's being replaced and a non vxl dealer won't want to get stuck with old stock.

Glad you liked the R though.

Sell the car private and pay cash, and you MIGHT be able to drop to sub 17k
I paid 16.6 for mine with nighthawk black pearl paint and A/C and a set of type R branded mats.

They even wanted to fit a HKS induction kit at pdi so i could hear that vtec scream. i declined and fitted the much nicer BLiTZ kit.

Doesn't the Civic Type-R suffer from heat soak with a induction kit?

I've got the latest Parker's price guide and a 2001 1.8 astra sri in good condition with 30k is worth £4940, and part ex £4345.

Yes the ctr can suffer with heat soak because the filters draw air from the rear of the engine bay, which is quite close to the exhaust.
the blitz kit comes with a stainless steel heat shield to help,
most owners also add a cold air feed pipe to allow cold air from outside of the bay to be drawn.

my cold air feed pipe will be repositioned soon (read as when i can be ar$ed) to one of the vents in the lower lip to get some RAM effect.

GruppeM and Mugen air induction kits are made from carbon fibre and tackle the situation in different ways. one draws air from an adapted scuttle panel and the other draws from the purpose designed front grille. And the newer comptec icebox has a low level intake near the bottom of the gear box.
    these are all enclosed solutions.

AEM, simota and a few others can be fitted behind the front bumper in the wheel well, so the filter and intake is right out of the bay.

If thats the current parkers price, the dealer was pretty much spot on the money with the valuation for the mileage.

I know that's a crap price but Astra's seem to depreciate so quick that it is possible that this is the right trade in.
