Advice needed on BMC airfilters please

I have my name down on the group buy list for the BMC 85-150 airfilter

I recieved a call from vanessa at autotechniks today to tell me that someone had dropped out and that I was next on the list, I havent had any past experience with BMC before, I have been told both good and bad things, I have a 1.8 16v SXi G running a de-restricted airbox with K&N panel filter, now the place that done my custom exhaust system say that the concept of the BMC is good but the phrase "Made in Taiwan" comes to mind, others tell me that they arent good value for money, there's a hell of a lot better out there and then some say that they are the best and there is nothing better, can anyone (especially people who have experience with these) pleas shed some light for me

    cheers

    Hmm,

I wouldnt say that they arent good value for money, if you look at the pipercross Viper, which is exactly the same concept, but got a £250 price tag on it.

I put a BMC on my GSI last week, i put it on the rollers before and after, and i got 5.5bhp increase. BUT, i had an open cone filter on mine ( pipercross ) which was sucking warm air in i guess.. but at least its right now.. and the BMC is doing its job.

at the end of the day mate it's still an enclosed induction so you can't be doing all that bad.

It's the same concept as the viper as said above and at the price it's going it's arguably better. You won't lose performance, you should gain but as with most things like this, it can't be gauranteed but don't let that put you off.

I'd find a new exhaust place, they obviously know nothing about induction at all.

If it's good enough for Petes Phase III coupe I'm sure its good enough for most of the Astra engine range. What you have to remember is that the kit is a universal one, so you need to apply some imagination to fitting. If you cant do this then dont bother getting one. IT took me weeks to find a good fitment on mine
