    Loss Off Performance on 18"

I was just about too order some 19" wheels too go on my 03 GSI but have been told not too as my performance will be effected greatly.

I was wonderin if anyone has put 18s on there GSI and given it a 40mm drop. Ive seen the guide too wheel sizes so know all about the offsets and dampners but dont wanna be loosing all my bhp and handeling. (I would off thought 18s on a 40mm drop would improve the handeling :? )

I also love the smooth ride of the GSI and dont want too geperdise that by getting 18s. (Especillay after owning a rattle bucket of an Ibiza cupra)

Any advise and pics would be great.

18s will be fine m8, you shouldnt lose next to nothing, maybe only when pulling away, i think thats the only difference i noticed

you wont get a smooth ride in any car wiht big rims....fact. what gazza said you shouldn't notice much diff. 19s you will lose minor top end you're talking 2-3mph but i doubt you will notice it's mainly acceleration that's sacrificed but even that's not huge.

unless you're really really picky you won't notice either

oh yeah forgot to add that, you will feel alot more bumps due to thinner tyres and if they are wider you will notice that it tramlines with the wear in the road

as for the handling part mines lowered 40mm on 18s and i really noticed the difference when throwing it into corners, so much better than the standard springs

Put it this way, Vauxhall offer 18's on the Astra Coupe now from the factory. So they can't be bad if chosen correctly.

I was told by Sturat Harris that the Astra GSi was planned to have 18's as a low cost option but the wheels wer'nt ready in time for the cars production.

But he did say the 18's really work well on the Astra G GSi from the prototypes they had.

The spec for these wheels were, 7.5 x 18 ET45. But I would only go for a 25mm drop to ensure your handling does'nt suffer.

    Hope this helps

    They are narrow 19's

I had 8x18's on my GSi and it didn't feel much different TBH !

    i've had 15's 17's, 18's and now 19's

best for handeling were the 17" OZ superleggera very light wheel!

best for looks are the 19's

i would advise as a compromise sinse u have a GSI, my 1.8 is never going to beet a scooby so its for look!
go for lightweight 18's, eg superleggera and koni kit springs and shocks, like i have just got! the difference is amazing!!!!!!!!
