Decided to bite the bullet and have a alarm fitted. I rang up a firm I'd got a quote from a while ago for a Clifford 500 which they had quoted £500 for. Since then the 550 has come out so I rang them up and asked if they would honour the quote for the 500 but fit a 550 for the same price. They said they would and whilst chatting about the alarm I mentioned the fitting the remote start invalidates the 550s CAT1 status only to be told that the 550 isn't a CAT1 anymore but the 650 is, they agreed to fit the 650 for £500 as well. I booked it in and thought I'd got a good deal. However the next day I searched the web to see what the 650 had that the 550 hadn't and whilst checking it I found that the 650 goes for around £379 fitted, I was a bit miffed at being ripped off so I rang the firm up and complained. They offered to fit a 950 for the same price as a goodwill gesture. Seeing as the 950 goes for around £599 I decided to take up the offer. Took them a full day to fit it and it's still not set right and I've got to go back tomorrow to get the courtesy light altered as the fade out is confusing the alarm. However the alarm is working fine otherwise and does a nice little cheep when you approach too close, plus it has tilt/motion sensors and a glass breakage sensor, blackjax and all the trimmings.
Feeling much more secure about leaving the car on the drive now might get those nifty neons fitted that light up on the door glass tomorrow if he's got the time to set them up.
Firm was Safe & Sound In Droyslden near Ashton just in case anyone wants to know.
