    mkII sri vs mkIV sri

on sunday i had a bit of a shock!
    raced an old mk2 1.8 8v 112 bhp sri (purchased for £70)
and my 1.8 16v 123bhp sri just couldnt pull away below 80-90mph
    was quite dissapointed!
i guess the few hundred extra kilos in weight makes quite a big difference.
might have got a bit a bit of a lead if the gearbox could take quick changes!

Console yourself with the fact that your mk4 is safer.
    . . . and be thankful it was'nt a 2.0 !

I used to have Belmont SRi with a 1.8 8v, these along with the Hatchs have close ration graeboxes and are rapid until it gets to higher speeds, then the extra valves on the Mk4 come into play. Got to remember that the Mk2's are lighter too...

I loved my Belmont, but the rust was a pain in the rse.....

Yeh the Belmont was the rse end version.... Heavens know what the name Belmont...

I liked the look of it especially with a set of Speedline Allesio's fitted..... Had the mad Burberry Interior too... Had leccie front windows and leccie and heated mirrors, was not bad spec wise. I had and still have a 2.0 8v GTE engine I was going to throw in it. I had plans to kit it out with a Daewoo nexia rear bumper, to flush the tailgate, and then fit a hugh cut and shut Lotus Carlton rear spoiler. Last time I seen it was on the new owners front lawn in bits, hate to see cars in that state unless it in a scrappie

Am quite happy with the Mk4 2.0 SRi I have now though, even though I had two manifold bolts shear off after just 34k... :x

awwww u should have kept it!!!!! unique!
that would have been nice to see/hear finished!
these mk4's arent built to the same standard as ealier cars!
mine has had new clutch/friction plate after 15k
these things shouldnt go wrong for years yet!
never the less......its a smart looking quick car!

i agree, would have been great to see that finished. I also had a belmont when i passed my test. It was all planned out to have a C20XE, Cavalier leather and a highly modded (shrunken) lotus carlton kit, along with vectra GSi hubs, brakes & rims. My best mate was an apprentice spray painter & pannel beater and his boss who owned the bodyshop said it would be agood project to put in the books. Then some litle **** drove down a cobbled road at 70mph in the wet and smashed into my dads mint Cav SRi, the belmont never got done as my dad then gave me some money for my car as he needed a car. Still tempted to do it, theres a 2 onwer J reg 60k belmont SRi for sale for £500, although ive still got my own cav aswell as the astra.

Anyway... just thought i'd add that guys, you brought back some good memories

re: mkII sri vs mkIV sri

Here's a picc of my Old Belmont before I lowered it, as it sat like a 4x4 for a while. Had a magnex exhaust that gave off a nuce growl too... Even manchines ome replica door pins out of brass..

    Hope this works........
