    Provisional insurance

I am thinking of sorting some insurance so i can use my car with L plates on.
Most companies need an experienced driver on the policy so if i put my dad on, and then me with a provisional.
Does anyone have an idea of how much price difference there is if i had a full license than with a provisional, because if it is gonna be a lot dearer then i might as well wait a month until my next test and hope i pass, but if it isn't gonna be much more expensive then i might as sort some insurance so i can use my car.
I am just getting sick on seeing my car sitting there doing nothing, it has only been 80miles in two years, so i think it needs a good thrashing to get the engine back upto maximum performance.
As its doing it no good just sitting there.

Does anyone have a guide price for the insurance cost, my car is group 6, i am 17 and me dad is 45.
    Cheers.
My mk3,117K, and the engine is still going strong
shame about the car shell tho, lol.

You should be able to get insurance cover on a provisonal license no problem, but it will be expensive!

But for you to drive your car til you pass you will need someone who is either over 21 (I think) or someone who has held a full license for 2 year to be sitting beside you!

i insured my car first car on a provisional for two months before i passed my test it cost me £1100 i believe my car was a group 5

i dont think it made a great deal of odds that i was on a provisional TBH and at least that way you can start to build up some no claims discount

Yeah there will be me dad there, hes 45 and been driving into double figures
So looks like i am gonna do that then, i was expecting pay around the £1000 mark, but will be paying deposit then instalments, and just swap it over when i pass.
    Thanks for the advice

Did you have someone else on your insurance as you had a provisional.

I seem to remember the same thing

When I failed my test I just insured my car, I was the only insured driver and it made no real difference between what license I held

Mind you back then I only paid about £250 TPF+T (6 month bonus accelator)

no i was the only driver on the poilcy.

when i past my test i phoned the insurance company to tell them i had past and they said it didn't make any difference (apart from the fact that leagally i could now drive on my own), just congratualed me on passing. So i jumped straight from the passager seat of the instucters car into the drivers seat of mine
