How do 1.6 16v Gs compare to:

    Alright everyone,

While Ive been on my travels, Ive seen a few cars that wanted a little go, and just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them, E.G a race.

The first car is the 1.4 16v MG ZR, How would a G compare to this on a straight road?

The second car is a Fo*d Focus, again how would a G compare to this on a straight road?

Any other cars which are similar which would leave a G standing?

Focus 1.6 16v zetec are quite nippy. Prob about the same acceleration i'd think!

In order for the G to beat these cars,

    How would you drive it?

    Where would you change gears?

MG ZR 1.4 is 105hp. Very little torque below 4000rpm, so not the best engine for traffic light grand prix.

Mate of mine had a Rover 214Si which I reced a few times back when I had the 2.2 diesel Laguna. The Goonie was only 80hp, but had a truckload of torque, so it pulled away from the Rover no problems initally. The Rover flew past at about 70 which is where the Goonie started to run out of puff.

I have played with a mate in his 1.4 ZR, upto 60mph he was stuck to me, started to slowly pull away after that and put a good 7 or 8 car lengths on him.

Yeah them ZR's are fast little things for a 1.4!
I nearly got one but the insurance was diabolical. So I got a 1.6 for cheaper insurance instead!
