    cambelt change

    hey i have a astra mk4 1.8 16v x18xe1 i aint got a service manual when do i need to get cambelt changed ????

    vauxhall advise having the cambelt on 16v engines being changed at 40k/4yrs.

    originally was 8yrs/80k. :?
    life's to fast to go slow. so get the turbo.

    we have people that still leave them to either 60k or even 80k.

    but vauxhall are starting to not want to pay as much towards repairs if they do snapped and you have been advised.

    You can get them done pretty cheaply now. I also have an X18XE1 and it's being done by the main dealer for £193 inc. VAT next week and that price includes the belt/tensioner kit. I'd do it myself but it's the one service item I won't touch as it's pricey if it goes wrong.

    £193+ does that inc the new idlers and tensioner?????? i would recommend replacing them at the same time. Also I replaced my water pump as well.

    That's the lot mate... Vauxhall won't sell the main part without I was told by the service manageress DIGRESSINGwho it turns out I went to school with) and when they do a belt change they always recomend that they do the lot under the service schedule.
