Fully snthetic is best for total protection, but like kirsty says - semi synthetic will do the job on the basic of engines

I am still puzzled by this. We spend lots of money on our motors, and then get stingy when it comes to buying oil for it. Is there any reason why we shouldn't ALWAYS choose fully synthetic? (except on a brand new car where a little wear is desirable)

If the car is using a bit of oil lets say 200ml per 1000 miles, would Fully Synthetic sort this?

Is Full Synth alright for a 40k engine?

    Thanks

Full synthetic gets too thin at high temperatures and leaks out all the dodgy seals in the engine.

I'm serious, been told that by several Vx dealers and mechanics.

You can't really go wrong with GTX Magnatec, it is semi synth and I have had fantastic results using this in Alfa engines over the last 4 years. Go for it on a 1.6.

I have a coupe turbo and use fully synthetic which is great in this engine, but not necessarily in a 1.6.

    re: What type of oil

I've also heard somewhere - either Vaux or on here - that using semi synth quietens your hydraulic tappetts down. Probably a lie by vaux so i use their oil.
