    Turbo help

    Car : Astra 2.0 Dti 16v

What is the job of the actuator on the turbo? As yesterday i noticed oil was leaking from the bottom of it? Its not bad but there is oil if you touch it? Anybody got any ideas what could be the problem?

    Thanks

The wastegate actuator is there to open the wastegate (funnily enough), which leaks off some of the exhaust gas. This is done to 'regulate' the turbo and control the boost pressure to the engine.

If the actuator is leaking oil, then this must be from the 'boost' side of the engine, as it is operated by the positive pressure from the turbo, which is in the intake side of the engine.

There is some oil mist in the intake from the breathers etc, but a big oil leakage sounds odd. It may be worthwhile getting a mechanic to give then engine the once over, as it is very hard to diagnose a fault from a passage of text
