    Cambelt kit+water pump quote

    Hello,

I was quoted about £315 (includes vat and labor) for Cambelt kit+water pump change. They said it's 1.8 hours labor at £62+vat (1.5 for the cambelt kit and 0.3 for the pump) and the rest (works out about £180) is for the parts.
Considering the quotation was from a vauxhall garage, do you think that is a reasonable price?
The car is LS 1.6 16v hatch Astra G.

    Cheers,
    Kakourdos

I had to have this done on mine coz the pump died. Paid around the same. Personally thought it was a rip off but its Vaux quality.

Ive just replaced my brothers cambelt and idlers on his 1.6sxi, It cost £70 for the cambelt kit alone and thats trade, (not vauxhall parts either but probably vauxhalls supliers!) and took me a little longer than 3 hours, including fag and beer breaks. TBH £315 aint bad, Its a pain to do yourself, and not for the faint harted DIY monkey.

I'm getting this done on the 24th. Didn't ask for the water pump to be done but the full cambelt and tensioner kit. Grimshaws vauxhall will do it for £220 so i'm getting a 40k service as well for £145 with courtesy car.

They said service is on offer there... should have been £200 for the 40k?

You may as well get the water pump done while they have it apart.
    If it fails, big money.
    Also Idlers & Rollers.

I got all the parts from LMF and asked my VX dealer to fit them. They didn't fit the water pump I supplied as they said the old one was fine.

Saved a bit of money on the job :? but wondered if they should have done the pump...

I would have got it done mate because if the water pump goes it is huge labour to strip the engine down (same as cambelt labour) + iirc if it goes then it could do the same damage to your engine as if a roller or the cambelt it'self failed (sure someone will correct me if I am wrong on this though)
