    Compression figures

I have just borrowed one of my mates compression tester.
screwed it into my engine and tested all four cylinders.
The Haynes manual suggests that the compression should be 10.5bar
My reading on each cylinder was 17bar, now loss of pressure and no difference between each cylinder.
My question is, what should the compression be for a 1.6 16v XEL engine no mods done.
    Thanks

Not sure on the actual spec but id say as long as they are all about the same then you aint got much wrong there compression wise.

Sounds about right to me but what made you do a compression test in the first place?

He had running problems which could have been sticking valves, doing the test just confirmed that all valves were seating correctly.

Seems to have been an EGR valve problem (also not uncommon).
