    Pre cat

is it true that the 2.2 coupe comes with a pre cat and that it is only needed when it is first registered. if so would i notice any benefit if i was to replace it with a straight through pipe.

Not totally sure a i haven't seen anyone do it , best to phone courtenay or AMD and ask about them. On NA cars changing the exhaust too drastically can cause you to lose power

    Bin the Pre-cat straight away!

    Nasty things.

At the very least take the downpipe down and smash the contents out with a bar and hammer

Just out of interest is is possibly to hollow the original precat out and how would this effect the sensors nearby?

Would this also make a big difference on a SRi-T?

The 2.2 does have a precat, but whether removing it helps, I am not sure. I saw two 2.2s at the rolling road, one with a precat that had been smashed out and it made less power than the one with the precat still fitted. It may be better to replace the precat with a tube section, like they do on the turbo

This seems to be true of NA cars - a bigger bore isn't always beneficial in NA cars and it is more of an discreet science than with turbocharged cars.

You need to ensure that the airspeed is maintained and also that the flow is not disturbed to dramatically.
