    Advice required, re: Lockable Glovebox

    Hello,

I hav a 3dr mk4 and want to put a lock on my glovebox. The VX dealer was less than helpful

How can I do this? I know that a lockable glovebox was made for the cabrio - but I wasnt sure whether this would fit in my car? Also, would I have to buy the whole glove box, just the door, or just the lock/handle...?

    Advice/part numbers/suggestions needed!!

    Cheers!

not worth it imo - any lock you are liekly to put on it will not be able to resist a break in for more than a few seconds.... all you'll end up with is more damage to sort out if omeone does break in....

You can buy just the handle and the lock seperately.

I discovered this as I had to replace one of the glovebox arms as it was broken. How I am not sure, as I went to open the glovebox and it would not open. Anyways while ordering the arm/hinge thing I discovered the lock and the latch are sold as seperate parts. Not sure how much though, but if like the arms, which were £3 for the two, they will be £2- 10 maybe.

Not sure how you would take the latch apart but if they sell them sepeartely it must clip out someway. To do this for the arms I looked at the replacement arms and saw how it was cliped in, once I new it was very simple.

Plus you would then need to buy a key to fit it? Unless they can order a lock that matches your existing key?

I presume that when u order a new lock, it will come with a pair of new keys!

Basil, do u kno whether, if I do buy just the lock and handle, I will be able to convert my existing glovebox door to use it? Or would I be able to just buy a door with a lock in, and then put that on my glovebox in place of the non-locking one?

The normal Astra car keys are about £70 each  wouldn't have thought that you would get a pair of them, unless they are just nornal keys but then that is more keys to carry

Am interested to know though if anyone finds out

The keys look like they come with the lock. Take a look at the pic below for further details (17 18 and 21).
