Mk3 1.7 td cylinder head
Hi ppl. Just had my car back to the garage as it has been having a few problems. They said the cylinder head is cracked and needs to be replaced!! They said it would cost around £650 for a new head fitted, which they are doing under warranty at there cost.
The thing is how will i know the have actually fitted a new part and not a second hand one?? and if they have done a good job or not??
any advice would be helpfull
Externally it could be very hard to tell that they've installed a brand new head over a 2nd hand one. It could be a refurb'd unit, it could be one from a scrapper or it could be a brand spanker. I'm guessing that a new head will have no discolouration marks and will be a nice bright/shiney cast colour where as a 2nd hand one would be dulled due to the heat exposuer. A refurb would be tricky though... You could maybe ask to see proof of purchase? Dunno - they might get shitty about that but it's your call.
£650 sounds a little cheap to me if i'm being openly honest for the supply and fit of a brand new head with brand new components and it's more than likely going to be a refurbished unit but don't think there is anything wrong with it as it will be covered by a waranty but I know i'd ask the question becuase if they've told you "Brand new" then a refurbished head isn't as described
