    Shake at 80mph?

Do you guys get a mild shake on the steering wheel at 80mph on the motorway. Noticed it today. Ive got a 2002 1.6sxi.

    is this normal?

    re: Shake at 80mph?

Don't know if it's normal or not but I get a lot of shake when motorway driving, infact I'd get less shake from a pneumatic drill.

i start to get a few vibrations through my steering wheel at speeds inexcess of 80mph too
I've always assumed it to be normal

if the shaking gets worse or is notice able at lower speeds i.e. 40mph and above then it is probable tracking and wheel balance!

have a look to see if your tryes worn evenly across if not then the tracking is out but tbh i think you would notice the steering wheel shaking at lower speeds!

Check the balalnce on your front wheels - mine did this and I had three goes at balancing before it came right.

alos check the spigot rings are on your rims if you've got aftermarket ones.

most likely to be balancing mate....Deffinatly if youve just had a puncture they may not have balanced them up right...

Get both fronts done just in case...

Tar 4 info. It was my rear tyre. On the kwik-fit receipt it said it was balanced.
They charged me £15.99 to plug my tyre!

As a general rule of thumb vibrations:

AT THE STEERING WHEEL = FRONT WHEELS REQUIRE TRACK AND BALANCE

THROUGH THE CAR (eg passenger seat vibrates) = REAR WHEELS REQUIRE TRACK AND BALANCE

I've just got new rims and I've only got 3 spigot rings for them, I wasn't concerned until I read that, as I thought they were only to help locate the wheel bolts.

Do you think I should get another spigot ring, or if I have the none spigoted wheel on the rear, will it be ok?

    thanks

Isn't our speed limit 70mph, so if the probs at 80 it don't matter. :P
My mk3,117K, and the engine is still going strong
