is it slow or is it me?

Hi i have a 2000 plate 1.8 astra SXi it is suposed to do 0-60 in 8.5 seconds but i dunno it feels like it looses a bit of power especially in the initial take off ( the first 4 or 5 seconds of accelerating)

When i start the car up about 50% of the time it over revs at about 1500 rpm and wont drop until I put a bit of gas on myself. There mite be something wrong with the engine management that would explain the loss of power.

Also i have noticed that my back box is a lil rusty to say the least perhaps i am loosing power through the exhaust.

But then again it mite just be me and the car is fine.

Does anyone have an opinion or a sugestion.

    thanx Rick

Re: is it slow or is it me?

Mine 50% of the time revs at 1500 for about two minutes, or if i give 4,000 revs it will clear, but dont like giving that amount of revs when engine is a bit cold.

    Nothing to worry about

re: is it slow or is it me?

i've been having trouble with my 1.6 16v, was getting to about 112mph & then just giving up, even tho it used to do more. I tried 're-setting' the ecu by disconnecting the battey overnight, dunno whether it was phsycological or not, but did seem to make the world of difference on top end & acceleration! Possibly worth trying??

Oh, & mine too idles very irratically, often up to 1500rpm as you say.

I think my car (2001 2.0 SRi) idles higher than usual when u first turn it on. Its about 1500rpm as you say. I always presumed that it was so that the car could charge the battery up again after the start, else if you turned the car off and tried to start again soon after there would not be enuff charge in the battery. Also, when the engine is cold, it makes sense that the ECU would try to warm it up a bit for you, ready for you to pull away. Once the engine is warm, it ticks over at about 750rpm. Im sure its normal for the car to idle high as soon as u turn it on!

As for loosing power, I dunno mate - maybe clean the air filter, oil change etc...?
