    Standard Turbo and Hybrid Turbo

I hear a lot about this Hybrid turbo and was wondering what is the differ between the hybrid and the one i have in the GSi?

Are the hybrid ones better and spin up quicker or something?

Same Size, but vane angles are changed, and the bearing are uprated. Spools to a higher PSi and holds it longer. The higher pressure the more power

Hybrid is just a term given to a std turbo that has been modified. Non specific so its not allways obvious whats been done. Quite common to use parts from a larger turbo by the same manufactuer.

I have a Hybrid, not worth the money really. You only get a little more power from it than the standard turbo.

For the same money get a GT28 or T3/T4 and a a nice headers made up. On a lower boost your car will fly.

I wouldnt bother with the hybrid turbo cost/power wise its not worth it. :?

I would just wait to see what happens over the coming months in regards to all the tuning companies developing a new manifold to take larger turbos.

Hybrid isnt all about power though, its how its delivered and how long it will last.

Bigger turbo will incure more lag remember. GT28's are pretty laggy, we played with them on the VAG 1.8T before getting IHI units for our conversions. Now playing with modded RS2 KKK turbos

More lag, Boosts from 2700rpm. But can keep boost past 8000rpm (if your engine could last that long).

Also less heat generated from turbo and you can run a lower boost to get more power thus no detonation problems.

As long as your not stupid and pump the power up past what your car can handle it will be more reliable than the hybrid turbo's.
