P-plater hits house
By Ben Johnson
A Sydney Family escaped harm and three youths were lucky to survive when their car smashed into a home late on Friday night.
P-plater Sam Dowling was driving friends David Harvey and Ben Read home to nearby Illawong when he lost control on a steep hill in Alfords Point, in Sydney’s south.
The car left the road and rolled up to seven times before demolishing a tree and slamming into a brick home in Brushwood Rd at 10:40pm.
“I had just hopped into bed” home owner Russell Box said. “I didn’t know what was going on – and everything fell on top of me because we have glass panels in our wardrobes.
“My wife was in the front room and she was a bit shaken up because we have two sons, but they were asleep at the time.”
Sam Dowling apologized to Mr. Box for his actions.
“We were going down the hill doing about 110km/h and there was a car on the opposite side of the road with the driver’s side door open,” the 17 year old said.
“I put the brakes on too hard and the wheels locked up and the car went and rolled anywhere between four and seven times. It just happened so quickly.”
