    Ignition Barrel

I have started having a problem turning my ignition key the firsrt bit.

For now i have just sprayed the barrel up but i'm sure there is something thats about to give up

Any idea what I need to buy to fix this, guessing it's a new barrel and if it is how easy is it to replace?

You out of warranty yet mate? As this would be covered in the third and final year.

Vauxhall are using a company called KLCK, if you pop down to your local dealer they can order you a new igntion barrel to key number, that way your not using one key for door, one for ignition etc, the dealership I work for charge a hours labour at bodyshop rate, £23+VAT, not a big job.

Oh and all you will need is the barrel, no other parts required.

Some time ago I poseted about a potential problem, mine suffered for a while (the key would stick momentarily when turning) but now it's fine... pretty weird...

    Chhers for your help guys.

Mine was 3 years old nearly 2 weeks ago now, typical

Guess I had better order a key code card followed by a new barrel as they can't be that expensive.

Any chance of a small how to on doing this job RichC, I like to think i'm not stupid when it comes to cars seeing as I work on them all day

    Hi Autosparks!

Should be dead easy as your key still turns. First order a new barrel to match the rest of your locks (mine was £30 for a mk4). You will need to dismantle a bit around the steering column. You need to put in the ignition key and turn to position 1. Then find a small hole in the side of the barrel somewhere and push a very small screwdriver in to release the barrel. Barrel should just slide out.
