    Astra 4x4???

    Hi

This may sound like a very stupid question but Iam wondering if any performance shops do this sort of mods. There are some vehicles like the Hyundai accent which can have the existing GSR 4x4 turbo engine and driveline popped straight into the existing shell. Is there any way that this can be done with say the cavilier 4x4 drivetrain into the astra? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this??

Lots of money and time to do this, not really worth it tbh. And the vauxhall drivetrain isn't exactly the best.

The only 4WD astra that ran was a ASTRA 4S Rally car developed with MSD. It ran a supercharged manta engine too. - so it can be done but as Manch said - with huge amounts of money and time.

You could easily buy a scooby or evo with the money you spent on buying the car and then modding it! & it still wouldn't be as sharp as those cars

courtenay did a 4x4 mk3 astra, which used the calibra floor plan. It cost a fortune!! didnt work all that well and got converted back to 2wd after a few years iirc.

There is also a 4x4 astra mk3 van about....that one day may make its debut to the modding scene

You would be better off sticking 2 engines in IMO. Better 4x4 and double the power

There have also been a few other MK3's converted, as well as using the Cav/CAlly floor pan you also need to cut down the rear prop as its too big for the astra, which is major work to get it lined up properly. When my MK3 was down at Santa Pod in 1999 for the Max Power Astra Thrash there was a white home made 4x4 Astra which hadnt had the rear done properly and managed an astounding 1500miles to a set of rear tyres as they chewed the tyre due to the angle. Nice idea but not really worth it.

The MK3 MatG is talking about origionated from Jersey, was one of the first C20LET Astra's, the first to have the F28 fitted and the first 4x4 Astra, its on one of the early Max Power videos as well.
