215/40/17 are fitted as standard on g's with 17's - so it won't affect the speedo reading

surely the width of the tire wouldn't affect the speedo reading anyway?

    205's are on the standard 16's (205/50/16's)

    215's are on the standard 17's (125/40/17's)

The middle number is the profile - which is the height of the side wall as a percentage of the tread width (which in in millimetres). The difference is only slight but it dose have an effect.

Have a look at this web page and it will show the difference a few mill makes.

Cal - Ffoeg is correct. You could go for 205/45 x 17" but they are harder to get and more expensive and don't look as good on a 7" rim. Defo 215/40 x 17" every time.
