    really do need advice peeps

i have recently sold a car to a private buyer, and he has now wrote a letter to me saying that i have broke an agreement of sale, due to the condition of the car (which i knew nothing about) apparently the water hoses are bursting due to the head gasket being blown, he is now trying to claim compensation for:
    1. loss of earning for 1 week
    2. repair of the vehicle

come on peeps where do i actually stand with this?

    cheers
    steve

Did the buyer view the vehicle before purchase?

Is the condition of the car something he could have noticed for himself during a viewing/testdrive?

i think you will find that if he veiwed the car and paid on inspection 9i.e he saw the car and was happy before he handed over his cash) then its his bad luck and you shouldn't have anything to worry about!!!

Don't think you've got anything to worry about. Sold as seen.

It is definately sold as seen. Were you aware of these problems with the car?.

This happened to us about 10 years ago with an old mk1 fiesta. Sold it for £250 and it was running fine. Guy happy with it and took it away. Next day he turned up saying he had got a mechanic to check it over and it was going to need a lot of work doing to it. He demanded his money back. He was really shady and from a well dodgy area so we gave him a refund.

Stick to your guns. Nothing guy can do unless he gets a soliciotr to send you a letter but he still bought it in that condition and it was a private sale.

he was happy at the time of the sale and he had full test drive and a look under the bonnet, as far as i am aware it did not have any problems that i know about, am i correct in saying that a head gasket can go at any time?( just a query)
