    car security

someone shoved a screw driver in my passenger lock and busted the lockup (they didn't get it thou), ive filled the lock in with superglue for now

    i have a mk2 astra 1.4L

i was thinking of getting something to discourage them from breaking in, i dont want to spend loads of £ thou as it is my first car and it only worth £500 max (propably not even that)

someone mentioned cutting the ignition cord and putting a switch in so if someone does break in the car wont start as they have to flick a switch first to make the car start (switch would be hidden)

also i saw a program a while back about how rubbish steering locks are and how they can be taken of in a few seconds, andone recommend a decent one that dont cost to much

    cheers

    nick

Buy a steering wheel lock for it or even buy a car alarm with immobilizer. That should help out

yeah saw a thing in the paper about steering locks, even the most expensive one took 3 mins to get off, de-lock your car doors, and that switch idea u said about sounds good, only if you can hide it somewere very sneaky so noone would e able to dind it.

welcome to the site btw, sorry to hear about your lock

Stoplock Pro is the cheapest one which is pain for thieves to get off in a hurry. As for cutting the ignition wire, most thieves will smash the cowling off and spot any altered wiring in seconds. Better to fit a proper immobiliser or even get one of those 'cut off' switches which disconnect the car battery, but leave a 10 amp fuse in line to supply the radio memory. They are hard to defeat as they can't be 'hotwired' around

I've got one of those massive disklok jobies, it just put ur std car thief off. It puts the the "burbury wearing cap" thieves off, after all it's usually the damage they cause when trying to nick the car thats cost the most to sort out. If a profeesional wants it then they'll take it.
