    Interesting is it true though?

    Was looking around the parkers site and I came across this

    Look-out for imported and re-badged Opel Astras. They are not rust-proofed and lack British specification.
    I knew that imports had different spec, but I didnt realise they werent rust proofed :shock:

    some are some arent! If it came from parkers its true! i heard this rumour from a guy 2 streets away he drives an imported 97 model MK3 Astra Belmont it's got more rust on it than the titanic!

    He doesnt care about it cos he gets to drive his dads bentley and the aston martin vanquish lucky for some!!

    I understand it depends on where the cars were destined for originally. If it was for a country like Cypress or Australia then there is a possibility they won't have the same degree of protection that they have in the UK

    quite often the case

    rust protection costs for the uk were one of the main reasons for Lancia's departure from the UK as main land europe didn't make the same demands on the longiverty of the body work.

    A friend fetched a pristine Mk1 escort over from malta, it was rotten inside of 6 months on uk soil.

    A high percentage of Opels in this Country are from Southern Island, therefore they have the same level of protection.

    But Techie is absolutly right, there are many Cyprus/Australia and Malaysia cars the UK. All these do not have the same level, and the Malaysian cars don't have ANY.
