    Speedo Vs. GPS...

Had a few PC probs so haven't been on here properly for a bit. I still have my Astra but also still saving for my Bora.

Anyway, I seem to be using the Sat. Nav a lot lately and have found a major difference between the speed readings.

On my speedo I might be doing 70mph but the GPS is reading 64mph and at 30mph on the speedo, the GPS is reading 26mph?

I personally think the GPS is more accurate as it claculates where you are etc using normally around 6 satellites.

    Any views?

Speedo's are meant to over-read slightly anyway aren't they? Other than that I dont have a clue really.

That's true but is it normal to be that inaccurate?

GPS evertime ... unless you have less than 3 saterlights, The speedos over read most of the time, and it seems to get worse with age (dont know why) my mates misses corsa can read about 10 over on the speedo doing 80um when gps is reading 70.

I'd always expect speedos to over-read. My speedo now reads about 2% fast which is great as my Mk3 was 10% out! Certainly I'd trust a GPS anyday over the speedo.

my gps reads about the same as you ewg....

think i get around 27mph at 30mph indicated. as others have said here, i'd say the gps is more accurate. this is backed up by the fact that last time i drove past one of those signs that flashes up your speed at you at "30mph" and it flashed up 27mph at me with a big electronic smiley

although i have noticed a slight lag in the gps speedo (ie as you accelerate it doesn't increase immediately to the right level... takes a couple of secs)

oh yeah and ps to the peeps with gps mouse.

I'm currently working on a little VB application that will work with the GPS to record 0-60 times and quarter mile times etc.

If anyone can think of anything else that might go well in the app let me know - remember the gps can only detect where you are so from that speed/direction/distance can be calculated.
