    Mk 4 problems/ newbie

    hi,

got my car at auction 4 weeks ago, been driving it for 2 weeks.

Phoned up vauxhalls last week to book my car in for diagnostic machine, I had to drop it in today a 8:00, rung them up at 3 thinking must of looked at it by now, they "said oh its just about to go in" I was errr ok, they have just called me and it doesn’t sound good.

I took it in because, The cars really hesitating, not picking up and really laggy, put your foot down and nothing,
    +oil leak
    +tappets are loud

Anyway just got off phone with them, couldn’t find any faults on the diagnostic test,
I asked if he might know why it was lagging/holdingback/hesitating he said no idea? will carry on checking tomorrow. Anyone else know what it could be? :?

they said they have to steam clean the engine to find exact place where the oil was leaking he said think its the sump gasket.
and the hydraulic lifters are going to need replacing

asked how much this would this cost didn’t know due to the parts man has gone home.

suppose I wont be seeing change out of £400+? :?

so they are going to ring me tomorrow

just seems strange that they have had it since 8 and have only just looked at it wouldn’t mind if they, said bring it in at 5
if anyone knows anything that would be a great deal of help :?

    thanks

    Lew

liters are about 12 pound each minimum so x that by 16 ...

Unfortunatley there are allot of things that could cause the car to hold back...its trial and error if there are no faults showing.

    yeah they are,

just read this off another post"

""When I had problems with my car severely lagging in all gears it was because the cam belt was ******* and so was my water pump. Took it to my local garage and he sorted it all out with new cam belt, pulleys and water pump. Any longer and I'd have taken all my pistons out. Cam belts are very serious when they break.""

could this be the same prob with mine?

    Hi Lew

could try new air filter, clean throttle body, new spark plugs, get the injectors cleaned or just add some injector cleaner to your fuel. all the cheap things. as to the lifters, does the noise go off once warm?

also do you know what grade of oil is in it, sometimes a slightly thinner fully synthetic oil wil eleviate the noise, gets the oil to the tappets quicker,

when was its last oil change?, how many miles has she done?

was it the actual sump gasket that was leaking or the sump plug? id get under and have a look just to make sure.

sounds like there rubbing their hands togeather mate, why dont you try an independant garage? prob give you a better deal if the work has to be done.

how much u pay for the service? u probly wana be looking to of payed for a proper full service

around the £300 mark, which they would have done everything

-new cam / tensioners (v.important to get done. is your car sound a bit like a diesel? if so get this done)
    -full oil change
-new fuel filter (could also be to do with the lag - see the "how to" technical guides)
    -new plugs

... basically everything that you can get replaced, replaced

    re: Mk 4 problems/ newbie

yeah it does sound like a diesel abit, going to have that done on saturday hopefully,

i payed £160 for service (not from vauxhalls)
on the service, i had oil change + engine oil flush, air filter, sparkplugs, replaced pollen filter? and inline fuel filter.
(vauxhalls said they could hear a funny rumbling sort of noise, they didnt know what it was thou) " i spoke to a mate last night and he said he had this with his cav gsi got the cambelt done + tensioners and its sorted, i just hope it is just the camblet, nothing more major,

    cheers

Heard nothing from them til 5pm when i called them, only to be told, there is nothing wrong with the car :?

Up til today there IS something wrong, I know it, but they cannot find the fault
