    Astra Servicing Advice

I hav a 1.6 8v astra with 39,000 miles on it, and its obv going in for a service soon. I know the cambelt (timing belt) is supposed to be changed every 40,000miles (at the service interval), but i foned up the VX garage to order a toiming belt for the service and the servicing mechanic said 'The timing belt change only applies to 16v models as they are belt driven and have to be changed, but the 1.6 8v is chain driven, so doesnt have to be replaced every 40,000, it just get tighted up at a service.'

Is this true? i thought it applied to all astras? would espec like comments from fellow 8valvers.

Lastly its done 39,000 miles and the service indicator 'INSP' has failed to show its face? will it come on at 600 miles?

    cheers

The only chain driven Astra engines are the 2.2 petrol and 2.0 diesel.

The 1.6 8v is definatly belt driven!!!

the 8v is the only engine that vaux state 80k
They were reluctant to do mine at 50k
But then if ya belt breaks on the 8v it dont break much else so that could be why.
