Unfortunately got beat to it for getting the pics up but have been playing around with this for a couple of months now
The centre console with the bar cut out between airvents and h/u:
Screen offered up for fitment - looks like it shall be spot on
Rest of screen - Took screen apart so as not to damage the expensiveness of its shiney greatness
Screen GLUED in - yup used EPOXY
Filler Filler everywhere - oh yeah and a bit of plastic behind it to fill some holes.
1st cout of filler primer and all is looking good (6 weeks later - 8 cans of primer - loads of bubling and cracking )
SMACK THAT ASS!!!
Bits of computer bolted into boot and onto back of seat. Its a high spec for just running MP3's, sat nav and videos (oh yeah that would be because i can use my phone as a modem for net access and the soon to be option of touchscreen electric windw control and central locking control and god knows what else )
Well its going in looking fine (notice my ashtray) got bored in between coats of laquer
Its good (but showing signs of filler expanding )
Well thats my car computer - the paint around the filler has been fine sinse and im sure it will be ok. Just a small lump there where im having the big problem is at the top of the console - the heat has cracked the paint so its gunna have to come out again for a respray but i cant be bothered with that right now as the paint was a pain in the first place.
Right well spec of the car - 7.2" touchscreen and loads of computer goodies - running media engine shell on winxp pro.
Is ace but have now found myself running low on an 80gb suppl of space
Have to invest in HUGE harddrive now.
Funnily enough all the problems I expected were replaced by different ones. I expected over heating and hard drives to fail from vibrations but nope - the problems were wiring up new hazard switch (see last pic - that red washer is a peanut butter jar lid and its got a mustard lid behind it).
USB cables that were too long - would have though 5m active cable was better than 2m non active but NOOOO!!!
And the paint doing funny things - other than that all is good.
The screen plugs on at the back of the cigarette lighter. The computer is powered by a 500w inverter which has a relay inline with the power - the relay is tripped using the feed from the head unit to switch amps on (remote) then the other 2 pins of the relay have big fat cable connected to the battery - results in inverter comming on with h/u then push button up front to power computer.
I think thats all ya need to know really - except if any1 got any ideas of what usb thinggy will work over 5m ad be fun or useful or something in a car then let me know - i was thinking about webcam in front and rear bumper for recording madness and could also be useful for parking distance guides.
Well Enjoy this hopefully there is enough info for peeps to have a go at it themselves.
Software at www.mediaengine.org along with 3 of my skins.
Oh yeah and as a final word the screen comes apart via 4 screws in the outer casing - then 4 screws on a circuit board for the buttons and 4 screws for metal brackets holding the screen in place on the front casing.
