How do people rate the 2.0ltr Astra Mk4 SRi...?

What are peoples thoughts on the Mk4 Astra SRi, 2.0 16v..?

I am weighing up the opetions between an SRi and a Mk4 Astra SXi 1.8 16v.

    Cheers

I've got a 2.0 SRi and although they have faster top end speed (by a few mph) the 1.8 is quicker to 60. This is due to the fact that 2.0 SRi's have long ratio gearboxes whilst 1.8s have close ratio. Personally I preffer that but if you're the sort of driver who prefers close ratio then go for the 1.8.

There are also 2 different types of 18 engine iirc, the later ones have 125bhp ithink and the earlier ones are slightly less (I might be wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am).

When I was looking for an SRi I orgiinally wanted a 1.8 cos I thought I'd be cheaper to insure but I had trouble finding any in my price-range, I did however find that many 2.0 SRi's were. I'm not sure if this is because they have been around for longer or what but that was just how it turned out for me.

    There's my thoughts anyway!

Cheers Guys for the info, Steve, you are right about the two 1.8 engines specs, the Mk4 Sport and SXi's up till a certain date had the later 124bhp I think it was the C18XEL engine same as the MK3 sport, where as the earlier ones have the Z18XE1 engine, same as in the 1.8 16v Coupe's

The choice I have is go for a T-reg 2.0ltr 16v SRi with in Polar Sea Blue and 34k with irnscher spoiler for £5.5K ono or go for a standard Star silver 1.8 16v W-reg SXi with 48k for £4k..... Decisions Decisions...

I have a 2.0 Sri and I think it's fun I found it to be quicker than my other 2 Sri Astra's, and they were both 1.8 16 valves and X reg.

2.0 is easy to tune than the 1.8

may be a consideration for the future?

If they were the same price the Polar sea blue 2.0 SRi would win hands down for me every time. It's a nice colour and its got a low mileage. My 2.0 SRi now has 77k on the clock i think and it's still fine so although low mileage is good dont be put off by high mileage ones if they are in good condition with FSH.

I had a 2ltr Sri, great car, I put the SRi Turbo Alloys on and it really made a big difference

You will have to colour code the mouldings and door handles though

I think the 2.0ltr engine is a great engine. It is smooth and responsive. Although the 1.8 is quick off the mark, it is rougher sounding and less refined.
