    New LED sidelights (night pics)

Been working on some new LED sidelights. The LED ones I've found so far haven't been bright enough for me, and it doesn't help that the 501 mounting hole is tiny.

I can't be bothered to go reaching through the full beam hole to bend the LEDs over so they reflect right. So I tried a different approach. Not quite perfected yet but... 9x 3mm 5cd LEDs pointing forwards plus 3 pointing backwards.

Still tough to get through the hole but I'm sure I can rework the other three somehow.

    Night pics to follow.

And a nice soldering iron burn on my finger!

They are 5,000 mcd Superbright White LEDs. I've not found anything brighter anywhere else so far.

Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt

Adam, have you tried them yet?

With that number of LEDs I think you may find that little resistor is going to be very hot

Night pics will have to come tomorrow, as I left my digicam at work...

Could be right there Steve, only fired it up briefly last night, but had the lights on all the way into work... The resistor is OK for the 0.4 watts consumed by the LEDs, but ordered some 2W ones just to be sure.
