    Cam Belt...

Had the car about 8 months now and its coming up to its 60000 service....
The service book has only got one stamp in it, and thats from the garage where we bought it from, so if its been serviced before that i don't know....
I'm just wondering whats the average mileage to change the cam belt..? or with the current mileage and the lack of service history should i change it anyway on the next service...?

Also what sort of price is a new belt..?

    Cheers

The cambelt should be changed every 40k or 4 years. You shgould really get it changed as you are not sure if it has ever been done.

New belt, rollers etc & fitting is about £150ish

    Hello,

Would it be wise to change the waterpump as well, while at it??

    Cheers,

Mine wasn't when it went in for the cambelt change and as Vauxhall didn't recomend it I'd say no!

The Cambelt kit is around £150-160 but fitting it brings the total bill closer to £250. Don't skimp on this item mate... you'll kick yourself especially if your current one snaps. Valve and Piston collision isn't a good thing on any car and it's not gonna be a cheap job

    Hi MicKPM,

You mentioned the 'Cambelt kit' ... What exactly do you mean by that ?

Should I/we change anything else apart from the cam belt ?

I just purchased a cam belt for £10 ... so I was kind of 'scared' when you said 'around £150-160'

P.S. ..I surely hope we're taking about the same thing ...you know I'm not that good with English technical terms .

You need to change the cambelt, tensioner & rollers (idler pulleys).
Don't need the waterpump doing unless your having problems with it.
Original bit from Vaux (with trade discount) cost me £110 about 2 mths ago & any decent mechanic should be able to strip & replace all the bits in 2-3 hours tops.

Has anyone changed the cambelt by himself ?

If yes, on a scale from 1 to 10 , how hard is it ?

I have an 8v engine ...so it should be easier .

    Thanks for the advice
