    Gearbox Dilema..........

Ok, heres the situation. On my 1.4 Astra G Ive managed a 100% succesful engine transplant from a 1.8 Vectra B. Old engine was 90 BHP X14XE, New engine with some mods 135 BHP X18XE1. Full wiring loom, New ECU and Throttlebody, Running sweet. Very torquey.

    PROBLEM...
My original f13 gearbox is about to S**T itself. I need to change my gearbox.
I got a free F18 gearbox from a vectra off a mate but the problem is the drives are bigger than my 1.4 drives. If I get drives off a Vectra will they fit straight into my 1.4 hubs and are they the same length as the Astra drives? The other problem with the gearbox is that on my existing f13 box there is a connection for what I assume is a speed sensor for the ECU, but on the f18 box there is no connection and the hole where it should be is plugged, is it possible to remove this plug and insert the sensor off my f13 box?

The other thing I had in mind is getting a 6 speed box and converting it to front wheel drive, does anyone know if this box will fit my Vectra engine and if its possible to still use my hydraulic clutch?

Or if anybody has any suggestions on another gearbox i should use Im all ears.

    Cheers..............

The f18 box from the veccy will not be close ration. Your best bet would probably of been to source a f18 box from an astra. The drives will not be the same length, so get some from another astra. Unplug the whole and stick your sensor in, it is only there to stop fluid from falling out during transit.

Six speed box can be done, but it will involve loosing your hydraulic clutch.

I have a veccy F23 gear box from a veccy (in good condition) and an F28 gear box (in very good condition) both for sale.....you will have to check they fit though first.

F28 sounds good to me but unfortunately Im in Ireland so that kinda ruins that idea.

I just found out about a crashed 1.8 Astra Coupe. Rear damage. would everything from this fit onto mine??

You can keep the hydraulic clutch with an f28..

Everything from a coupe 1.8 should drop straight on...

Is there a difference in the gear ratios on a f28 box?

I dont think you will have the torque to use the F28 to its full potential.

I paid £250 for it and since then I have cleaned it up, the box has done between 30k to 35k miles.

I want £250 for it really. PM me if you are interested.
