The only way to stop the battery from dying is to keep the engine running so that the alternator can keep it charged.
If you keep playing a PS2 or audio system with the engine off, then the battery will eventually die completely.

The only way to avoid killing the car battery is to fit another battery in the boot for all the ICE to run off, then run a split charging system. If you run down the battery for the ICE you can still start the car and drive home.

I have this setup on my car, but just to run the fridge at shows, as those things pull 5 to 6 amps and will lunch a 70 amp hour battery in the duration of a show

The thing is, most car audio systems are power hungry beasts.

A 250w amp, running flat out, will draw about 35-40 Amps (most amps are only about 50% efficient).
This will run your standard battery completely flat in about an hour.
Even with the second battery, it won't last too long if you don't have the engine on & the alternator running recharging it.

Stick a batt in the boot as said before and play it as long as you like and still start up and get home

That was the point I was trying to make, my Nova had 1.1Kw of amplification and at full tilt, running the split charger setup but only using the boot battery it would take about 5 minutes of play before the big bass amp would shut down to prevent clipping. The alternator HAD to run and the car's main battery be hooked onto the system to get the system at full pelt, even with a 1 farad cap for the bass amps
