Sxi rear brakes fit onto sport with no probs?

    Hi, ive a 1998 astra mk4 sport (1.8 )
My car has bosch rear calipers. Ive been haveing problems with these sticking etc, and my rear disks are a bit coroded on the outside.

My car went for its mot today, passed but handbrake performance was only 17% and the pass is 16%, And the tester said the only way to fix is new pads, disks, calipers and cable.

Ive heard that later mk4's such as the sxi etc came with lucas calipers that are seemingly much better, So as the cable, pads disks and calipers need changed, i might aswell get the lucas set-up, thats if it will fit, can any one help?

    thanks
    Gary

grease m8 on the cables, yes it was a fault with rear discs but thats life, you could check for a recall on this

its not an official recall so they won't tell you.

Thats the thing, i have cleaned them up etc, cables are free, caliper arms are free, and tried adjusting them, but its all gonna need replaced b4 next mot.

So if i get newer 1.8 brakes what am i gonna need, pads, disks, handbrake cable, calipers(what about caliper carriers? are they the same?) :?:

Have you got yourself a calliper winding tool?

When you replace the rear pads you need to wind the piston back in using a special tool that'll set you back £12 from your local Halfords. If you don't, the result is severly reduced or even no handbrake no matter how much you play with the cable.

I have a 1999 (T) Sport and I had to replace all the cr4p Bosch stuff with the new Lucas stuff so I can confirm that they do fit ok. Vauxhall must be aware of this problem as then now do a calliper 'kit' (2 x callipers and set of pads already fitted)
