my mk4 astra 2.0 sri sounds like a diesel!!

    Hi all!
When i bought the car back in Jan 2004, the guy told me its the EGR valve noise. that it will be quieter when warmed up. It doesnt go away when the engine is warm, not even quieter! I fitted a K&N induction kit and it was even more bludy louder! Please can anyone help!
Also i was told fitting the induction will actually reduce power as it isnt calibrated to the ECU? any help will be highly appritiated. thank you! :P

it could be a few things

    1. the alternator is on the way out
    2. you have a leak in the manifold
    3.egr
    4.water pump
5.need more to go no there
    6. the end

Thanks dan, i've been told it could be the the outlet manifold gasket. just making sure! also, would a induction kit gain any performance on this engine, as ive been told that the ecu needs to know of these changes (chipping) otherwise, too much air will go in and a loss of performance instead of a gian!??

The exhaust Manifold on the X20XEV (2.0 Astra G) is prone to cracking which can make it sound like a diesel

i would say get your self a K&N filter for the air box and cut the pipe work in side the air box also get a new pipe from the air box to the grill would be better for town driving i would say as the filter is inside the box not sucking hot air inside the engine

one more thing try this take the alternator belt off and see if it sounds like a tdi as the bushing inside the alternator do sound very much the same as the leaking manifold i would try this first very easy to do and pos save your self a few ££
    as a alternator is about£45
