Just changed my rear tyres from 215/40x17 Federals to Falkens of the same size. Still have my Feds up front.
I always thought that the Federals (which look like a copy of Toyo Proxes) were pretty cheap and cheerful, but I got over 2 years out of them and they gripped well. I thought the Falkens would be similar if not better - how wrong I was.
At low speeds they are fine. At high speeds however they are scary! If you take a shallow bend at 70+ mph the back end feels really lively. It is like the back end is going to swing and then bounces back, almost as if the sidewalls are not stiff at all and the car is swinging out past the contact patch of the tyre!
It makes any long curve like a series of turns and corrections - very unsettling and much concentration required!
I've tried various pressures from the standard 27psi for my 15" OE wheels to 33psi which I ran the Feds at most of the time.
Don't know what it will be like when I change the fronts too!
Any one else on these tyres?
