Exhaust System for Astra Mk4 1.8... whats the best?

I am after a complete change of exhaust considering my baffles have gone and the cost to replace just that portion is £180.

I like the look and sound of jap style exhausts but have only found one company that makes them and they are pretty cheap at £260. Any ideas? Does jap style 5" boxes cause any problems, back pressure, etc.

Can anyone suggest a decent cat-back system for around £300 and where to get it from? What sort of power increase on a Mk4 1.8?

Cheers guys (and girls of course!),

    NiK

I've got the C18XE engined 1.8 ( the 115bhp version ) with a full catback jetex exhaust and a panel filter ( derestricted the airbox too ) and have gained a healthy 8bhp or so from this lot ( RR proved ) Cost me 100 notes second hand for the exhaust system and 20 quid or so for the filter. I think jetex systems are just under 300 notes. not very big, and doesnt make much noise - which suits me well.

I too can vouch for the jetex twin cat back - boosting ours from 115 to 124.5 bhp (+ jetex cone filter)

Its quiet and not the loudest, but efficient and decent gains
why do today what you can...... I'll finish this later

You are right, the only 1.8 16v engines in the MK4 are the X18XE1 & the Z18XE, the C18XE was in the MK3 Astra
