Which Model Merc mate? If it one of the new shape ones like the C class W203 CLK(W209), E class(S/W211) S class W220 They are screwed in and you need to unclip the dash. For the older ones like the ML (W163), A class, old CLK W208 old C W202 and the E class W210 you need to use the keys. These cost next to nothing at a Merc dealer. They are the same Keys that VW/Audi use but Merc has them cheaper

Part number for the keys is W000 589 88 63 00 Radio Keys (But Check the Part number with your Dealer).

You need the keys mate. No tricks unfortunately, as it is wedged in nice and tight in the CLK and you will not get the leverage to remove it without the keys. The keys incidently lock into place and only release once the radio is out. Last time I checked with my discount cost me less than £1.50 so probably cost you about 2.20 or 2.50.

Yes, if the new radio has no iso plugs and you don't want to cut wires. The Merc has a standard A and B iso plug with an additional C plug for CD changer + and - and the D2B wake up for the CD changer, plus the CAN High and Low(no not like the Vauxhall one) which does things like the Steering wheel controls and the Info display. Sadly you will lose the Steering wheel controls and the radio showing on the Display in the instrument cluster which will show blank like the Vauxhall one does.

And before you ask the question there is only an adapter (Steering wheel control) for the Becker traffic pro available and Alpine but if memory serves it is a right pain to do and best left to the experts as it involves taking a few bits and pieces apart (removing the steering wheel seems to ring a bell).

If you need more info mate (pin locations etc..) pm me ,or ask the question, as I know the Merc's audio and and telematics like the back of my hand, as they say.
