Not difficult as Divma says, just watch out for the firewall if you have one!

    I use the free version of ZoneAlarm at the mo, but that doesn't like internet sharing so everytime Chris wants to use a different website I have to enable it for him. Hopefully uprgading to the full version this year should sort that out

    Get yourself a hub and run the cables down the walls, or drill through the roof. just plug your internet connection to the hub and both pc's........ and its all plug and play.

    if your modem isnt a ADSL Router then you need to buy a router for your connection then that plugs into the hub.

    either way its easy.....

    im in the middle of putting a server in my loft, i have a cable modem and i need a router to go in between the modem and hub. But if you have AOL you should be fine with the connection straight into the hub.

    Message me if you have any problems.

    Alan.

    As above, easy peasy, I have done this myself. You can use the built in XP Network Setup wizard, this will turn on DHCP for ya and enable internet connection sharing. Then change TCP/IP on the 98 machine to Obtain an IP Address automatically. You need the 'Server' (XP machine) turned on 1st when you want to use it, if you started the 98 machine 1st, open up a command prompt and type:
ipconfig /release
//don't always need this stage
    then
ipconfig /renew
You don't need a router as your XP Machine will act as a router (Internet connection sharing) but if you don't have a router the XP machine needs to be on for the other machine to access the internet. It is nicer to have a router though

    XP as server? That may be part of why I'm having trouble... Win 2000 is the "server" (the PC) and XP is the Laptop :roll: Maybe they're fighting?

    you just need a network card in each and a big length of cable then you got urself a peer-to-peer netowrk. you can then set up internet connection sharing and hey presto
