    Idle Air Control Valve

    Alright peops ops:

I took my MK3 astra 1.8 sport racing on Friday and although I was pleased with the result it's left me with a few problems...

Every time I now pull up to lights the revs drop and the car dies (it used to hunt before)

As I slow down and get near say 1000 revs, the EM light comes on, if I put my foot back on the accelerater the em light goes out and the car accelerates, so it only seems to be a problem when idling (in fact the top end seems to have improved somewhat since I gave the engine a nice quick run).

I can only assume this is the ICV? It was always a problem on my Cav (20SEH engine) but on the C18 XE its completely different.

Do you think this is consistant with a bloked ICV, and could someone post a pic to locate it under the bonnet. I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks guys,
    Gareth

Yep sounds the prob' not sure on the light coming on, i've never had that though.

It's under the pipe that goes from the throttle body to the air box, it bolted onto the side of the throttle body, just take it off and clean it up with brake cleaner.

Can't do you an insitu photo, but it looks like this (pretty much actual size)

I would have thought the engine light wouldn't be related to the ICV tho.

Cheers.. Ill take that out tommorow and give it a clean. My mate thought that its because the engine is dying, its getting an incorrect crank sensor signal... ill do a fault code reading tommorow if the problem doesn't clear...

    Much appreciated as always

    ICV...........

Try cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner.
    I got a Mark 4 S plate and they don't have a ICV.
But I had probs with the car dieing on me all the time.
Quick clean out with carb cleaner and no probs since.

Repeat till it comes out clear - this will usually that many many goes.

    Carb Cleaner

The cleaner gets rid of all the crap deposits that build
up and choke the engine. My car had been driven by an old guy,
so hadn't had a blow out!!!!!!. The trottle body was black with crap.
Once cleaned no probs at all. Even a Vauxhall dealer in Harlow told
    me that.
