Help, Oil Where It Should'nt Be! Why ?

Changed my spark plugs at lunchtime, for the Iridium ones which came this morning.

The old plugs were not in a good state, and would not have lasted another 10,000 miles (even though they were changed 6,000 miles ago).

Had to undo the hose which connects to the top of the air intake (you know where the hard cover over the engine goes into).

There was some oil around the hoses and inside the turbo intake, just trying to figure out where it came from and what could be wrong ?

It could be one of the following :-

    1) Turbo Oil seal failed. (but how could the oil come back if the force would drive it forward ? Would there not be smoke out the back when revving the engine?)
    2) Recently oiled the K&N, could the oil have come from there ?
    3) Engine over filled at last service ? (They did not give me the container back when serviced so did they put all 5 litres in ?)

Would appreciate any ideas, I will clean out what is there and leave for a week to see if it returns.

I would be surprised if the Turbo seal has gone !

Would reckon overfilled. Oil off K&N would be very distinctive.

Will have to wipe the oil up and see if its red, which would indicate that it is the K&N filter oil.

Car is not under performing, so I am not too worried yet....!

Started it up with the new plugs in, idles better than it ever has.

    Goodbye bosch plugs forever!

Did you put too much oil on the K&N?

Not really, sprayed along each pleat once only as recommended in the instructions.

Will have to clean it all out with wd40, if it is definetly filter oil.

Is it safe to use wd40 on the AMM sensor and intake pipework?

Why is everyone going into panic mode? It will be condensed oil vapour from the crankcase breathers going back into the intake. Happens on all engines. Unless the intake was absolutely flooded with oil it is quite normal

Looks like what you said is correct.

It seems to be just excess oil from crankcase etc, as there is not that much.

Wiped it with a cloth, and it's is definetly not filter oil, so no worries about AMM.

Lot of panic over nothing
