Astra GSI No longer being made.

    Guys,
I wasnt aware of this so unsure if you guys are. Just went to order my new car today ready for april. Did you know that vauxhall stopped making the Astra GSi in October?
I managed to get a factory one with a load of extras on it..
I didnt belive the dealer so phoned vauxhall direct and they confrimed that the G is no longer in production due to the new shape, they expect the new GSi to be out in around sept 2005,(thats if that make one!)

Thought I was going to have to hold on to mine!

I imagine production of ALL G's must be pretty limited now in readiness for the launch of the Mk5 in Spring. Motoring press reports I have seen claim a mid 2005 arrival for the 'performance GSi' version. Haven't seen anything lately to contradict that. I'm sure the GSi will come - we had to wait 5 years for it the Mk4 guise!!

got a small brochure for the MK5 in the post this morning.

there is a small reference to the 2l turbo engine that will be used,
"and if you didnt have enough to think about there is wide range of engines to choose from, including the 170hp 2.0 litre turbo"
also they say you will be able to get
"F1 inspired steering wheel mounted gear shift controlls"
sequential gears then, should be nice

The Z20LET went out of production last December too.

The 2.0T Astra mk5 is supposed to be available at launch time.

Looking back at this print of an Auto Express web page in July last year ...

"Performance car fans are certain to be excited by the promise of the 250bhp GSi edition which will be powered by a 2.0 litre Saab derived four cylinder turbo."

It's difficult to keep up with all the various news & rumours etc !!

250bhp was the engine with a high presure turbo I think, or it was variable unit. Either way Saab had heat problems with them so I think they now run at 220bhp.

Saabs top of the range Aero runs at 210bhp (I have been to look at them today ) - very nice unit, and a nice drive indeed.

The new mk5 turbo will be based on this engine, with a new map - around 220-240 bhp from what I hear.

I work at Vauxhall Ellesmere port and we have started to build the mk5 already but only the 5 door. The 3 door is getting released next year.I think the car will sell its a nice car.
We are stopping building the Astra G estate in Feburary
