    Z20 intercoolers

Which one is the best to go for?

Is the regal/Courtenay one really going to make much difference, with it being sat in the origional position or am i better buying a universal one that i can mount directly behind the grill, and use 2 smaller fans sitting above it?

the space is very tight iirc for an after market one, but it has to be the best way to do it, the courtenay/regal ones are mostly covered by the front bumper, so can not be as effective.

I have never seen an aftermarket one located in the lower grill section either.

someone as made a cooler that fits across the bottom grill, but to be quite honest it looks a lot smaller that the regal/courtenay ones due to the limited space

The regal/coutenay intercooler is a tight fit, they had to cut the bumper on mine to make it fit.

The problem with the EDS one is that around half the intercooler is behind the bumper. But the effectiveness of a intercooler is down to its mass / volume / flow rate and frontal area. In the first 3 areas the EDS intercooler is pretty good. To have a intercooler in the lower grill with the same mass and volume as the EDS intercooler you would need to remove the air con fan and install a smaller one above , because there isn't enough space infront of the air con fan for a decent size intercooler . If you completely removed the air-con fan you could fit a Evo intercooler in there, but again a large percentage of that intercooler will be behind the bumper.

not if you cut the number plate section out of the bumper? With a custom intercooler you will need a custom bumper to get the most out of it. You only need to see what the cav, cally, mk3 turbo people are doing now with regards intercoolers to see which direction the mk 4 has got to take.

The question is who will do it first....it isnt hard and if I had a turbo it would of been the first thing I would have done TBH.
