Any information/advice please on Mk3 Astra GSi?

Hi all, I used to come on here a bit when I had my Astra Coupe Turbo, but due to circumstances (splitting with gf & moving out) I had to sell it and buy something a bit cheaper to free up some cash. I bought a nice Golf Gti, which unfortunately was written off in an accident last week. I'm now on the look out for something new (as soon as my insurance company pay out!) Was thinking about mk3 (I think) Astra GSi. Would really appreciate any specs or information on these cars, what to look for when buying, what to expect to pay for one etc. If any of you want to give me your opinions on these cars that would be great as well.

Due to the fact that the insurance company will probably shaft me I probably won't be spending much more than £3k on it so will be looking for a completely standard example.

    Thanks everyone

    Sorry Ian,
Don't know what to look for.

PeralBoy saw one on autotrader, 1 owner L reg 60k, going for £2k
    High insurance though I reckon.

There's probably plenty around so if you really want one take your time.

Thanks for your reply, how's the amp going? (This is where you tell me it blew up or something and I feel incredibly guilty!)

I'm looking generally around at a number of cars and will probably just go for the first mint example I come across, just curious as to what to look for with the Astra in case one pops up. Insurance isn't a problem luckily.

Don't suppose the new owner of my coupe has popped up on here, I did mention this site to him I think!

As with most things, the amp is on my 'still to do' list !
I'll need to replace the battery cable with something a bit thicker,
then get a distribution block to supply power to the 2 amps,
oh, and fit the componants, and the wiring through the doors,
oh, and re do the boot install so both amos fit !

    Not much eh

Not sure if it's any help but the GSI is group 18 and your looking at paying between £2500 and £3500. Look on autotrader there are about 8 at the moment.

GSI is group 15!! i owned one and had the c20xe lump in it. Make sure you get the right year otherwise you could end up with a 1.8 ecotech gsi which are obvioulsy slower.
I sold my gsi with 17's, rare front splitter, reiger grill full s/s exhausr, + engine mods for £2.5k so do look out for them.

Sorry my mistake I was looking in the back of max power and it has that 'Max Top 100' and information on them and I managed to read the the mr2 turbo.

Anyway the rest of the information in the mag is:

    0-60 - 7.2
    top speed - 130

Thanks for the info people. Any more would be much appreciated, eg how to tell a duff one, what sorts of components need changing and at what sort of time, ie does the cambelt need doing at 70k or whatever.

    All info much appreciated.

    Thanks again.

also as said before make sure it is a 2L 16v you get and not the slow 1.8
