    WTF is a power sounder?
Could have sworn I posted my repy earlier :?:

It's actually the battery back up siren for the Thatham 1 alarms fitted to vauxhalls and yes they seem to wrong quite often.

Pesonally i'd always rather fix the standard one rather than fork out £200+ for a new system

These can go wrong quite regularly and are positioned under the wheel arch (above the plastic arch weather protection piece). They are not very tolerant of water, so any POWER jet spraying under the arch might effect it. They are only a plug in unit, so fitting it is easy. It's getting to it which is the hard part!!!
£60 is about right for the unit, but another £60 for fitting is a bit steep. Shouldn't take more than half hour, especially at a Vaux dealer.
Depending on how old your car is, this is covered under the 3 year Vauxhall warranty. And don't let them tell you otherwise...............

    Hope this helps

Sadly the car is just over 4 years old. I think this might be the first time it has played up coz my parents have had it for nearly 3 years

I'v had exactly the same problem. Whenever there is a frost my alarm goes off for no apparant reason. Iguess due to water getting into it. So I went out and bought a new siren for around £35 + VAT (I will try and find out where an post it up here).

It is easy enough to fit yourself by jacking the car up and removing the arch protective panel. Its a bit of a bitch to locate but it should be in a cage of some sort and then can just be unplugged and replaced.

    Hello,

I think I've read somewhere that the powersounder needs to be programmed by Vxl or something...

Nik can you shed some light when you're done with your's?

    Cheers,

    Don't just unplug it.....
Put the ignition on first, and leave it on while you unplug and fit the new one.
Otherwise if you just unplug it... it will just go off, and i don't think you can stop it once you have done it.
    No programming needed.
