    What do you do if.....

you buy a car thats been off the road for years and the owner can't find the log book anymore?

Is there a way to do this?

As the dvla are getting tight on it, but this is slightly different as it's been off the road for a long while.

Do I contact the dvla and explain or what??

Where's jody when you need her???

**EDIT** This is a general question and applies to no-one

the post office has a form you fill in, you just fill in the car details and that you are the new owner, and they send you a new log book in your name in a couple of weeks, i think first they contact the previous owner though, just to confirm

The form is called a V62 I think.

You can download a copy from the DVLA on the internet and it doesnt cost other than a stamp.

They will contact the previous owner just to verify that they have sold it.
