Optimax vs BP Ultimate or other super plus

My mate at work has only had his GSI for a few weeks.

He get's through petrol fairly quickly, and has filled up the car 6-7 times in the past four weeks.

He has tried running it on Optimax for 4 tankfull's and is now running it on BP Ultimate.

He prefer's the BP Ultimate, as he says the car is smoother and pulls better.

I myself have used Optimax for as long as I can remember, and filled up with Jet Super last night.

I tried giving it some stick, and the car did seem to rev better.

Nikon run's his car on Super Plus only and got a good power figure at Northampton, is optimax overated...?

I must say with optimax, after it has been in the car nearly a week the performance does go a bit flat.

I have trouble with my 2.2 Astra when BP upped the octane. It ran well on 97ron but as soon as I started on 98 it ran ever so jerky and sluggish. It seems to have got better over time and now runs well again.

Optimax on the other hand was terrible from the offset and never got better.

I always feel the car runs better initially on Optimax, but I always wonder if theres some truth in it 'going off' after a while. It never seems as good within a few days.
Tried some super unleaded after speaking to LordNikon, still not sure, but I suppose with any of them you have to run a few tank fulls.

If I go to the right garage in Watford I can normally get the good fuels for about 77p a litre which is cheaper than a lot of areas.

I always use ultimate, i'll drive out of the way to get it too!!
The car does feel more sluggish after using optimax (after driving for 1/2 a tank) when putting ultimate in, runs heaps better almost straight away!
    Just my thoughts

I seem to be gettin like 30-40 miles less to a tank of ultimate than optimax, but the car defo feels smoother.

I am almost sure ultimate is still 97 and not 98

Optimax is 98RON with additives to get that figure.

Ultimate is 98RON with no additives.

Petrolhead, the old Super Unleaded was 97ron.

I'm sure super unleaded was banned for a while due to higher emissions.

Used to use Optimax here but Shell have phased it out here and replaced it with V Power which is 100 ron. Can't tell any difference between the two and I can't see how the ultimate is seeing as there are no BP garages in Germany.
I just stick with Shell, big brand good fuel
Astra GSI Turbo 03, Arden blue, Irmscher goodies inside, EDS power pipe, Samco turbo hose kit, Opel OPC grille, Opel OPC Spark plug cover, S/S Powerflow exhaust.

I've never felt optimax die down in performance . Its hard to tell without being able to see the timing and amount of air taken in for each fuel.

I have always ran my car on Super Unleaded, when Regals tuned her Karen said that is the minimum now to stop pinking etc. Chris says he always runs his Phase III coupe on SUL, and has never had any problems.

I always find Petrol is like your oil choice, better the devil you know. MY car was running normal unleaded on the RR day, as we struggled to find it on the way there !

As optimax is stil afew pennies more expensive down here, and I can see no real gain, I am going to stick to SUL.
