    Cheers....
So, sending an sms on the O2 network costs £0.49?! Well, it says 49p, converted thats ~$1.15 australian..... lol, something isn't right here, at least don't look like it to me......
our sms's are $0.25 trying to work out a cheaper way to SMS, phone things are cheaper over in the UK or so i'm told!

That souns about right to be honest m8

not only are you crossing networks which bumps the price up, but your also roaming across continents. Everyone who helps get that sms across their network from Oz to Uk will have a little nibble at your wallet m8

    1p x 100 = a pound

Does your service provider do online SMS?

I know orange (my service provider) and O2 both have internet SMS free of charge.

Or have i missed something? maybe O2 are big in Oz

    Well thats hella expensive!!!
Converting aus$$$ to pounds means it costs ~£0.10 per sms we send... and it costs that much to send anywhere in the world
We don't have O2 here, we have Optus (Singtel - i work for them ), telstra (aussie company, lol) and vodafone and orange CDMA phones and "hutchinson" (also orange) which does the "3" network....
They are all $0.25 per sms or cheaper!

My standard text (sms) cost is 8p per message in the UK

I sent someone on here a few too many texts while away on holiday and each message was costing 80 odd P after the other networks had added their charges for using their networks.

what makes that even worse is that I was still within the EU too, where as youre the other side of the world

internation roaming calls and texts are expensive because they bounce off so many diffrent networks on there way to there destination, each of whom would like a cut.
